ITF Dubai Aviation Cup PDF Print E-mail

Some of the world’s best up and coming tennis talent will be on display once again when the ITF Dubai Aviation Cup gets underway at the Dubai Tennis Stadium.

The tournament, which is owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free and is sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), features a men’s and women’s tournament filled with promising players. In fact, local and international tennis players from over 35 countries are vying for precious ranking points and a share of Dhs165,000 in prize money.

Launched in 1991, the initial goal of the event was to help support local tennis by providing a platform for the best players to play against others from across the region. It has more than achieved that vision, and each year The Aviation Cup has grown in size and reputation. It is now recognized by players from across the region and around the world.

Both main draws will consist of 32 players, while the qualifying draw in the men’s will include a further 32 players.

Once again the tournament will attract plenty of exciting new talent. And the likes of Omar Behroozian, the UAE’s number one player and a veteran of the Dubai Aviation Cup, as well as Kuwait’s top player Mohammed Al Ghareeb, will be in the mix.

Tournament owner Dubai Duty Free has not lost sight of why this tournament was created despite its new-found international status. Whilst it’s an exciting platform for both local and international men and women players to improve their rankings, it’s also a tournament that plays a key role in developing young talent.

And the ITF Dubai Aviation Cup, which is held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum, President of Tennis Emirates, will continue to play an integral role in the development of local tennis for many years to come.

The Dubai Aviation Cup is the only ITF tournament in the world to offer the Women event same prize money as the Men’s, thanks to Mr. Colm Mcloghlin the Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free the tournament owners who lifted the women’s prize money to $15,000 on par with the Men’s event.
